Small multi-colour striped damru drum
$18.99
The Damru in India is used by itinerant musicians of all types, because of its small size. Shaivites (devotees of Shiva) associate it with Shiva’s role in the cosmic dance, representing the primaeval sound and rhythm of creation.
It may be used in more mundane ways, for example as self-accompaniment for singers and dancers and is likely to charm any child with a feel for rhythm; it is played by twirling rapidly in one hand, striking the heads in close alternation with knotted string used as beaters.
This two-headed hand drum is made of clay with goatskin heads and tensioned by knotted string; painted in an assortment of bright colours.
Size: h10 cm
